A equipa algarvia do Clube de Praticantes Ultimate Portimão, mais conhecida por UFA (Ultimate Frisbee Algarve) sagrou-se no passado dia 15 de setembro campeã do torneio internacional de Ultimate de Praia Calafell Arena, que decorreu nas proximidades de Barcelona. Durante os 3 dias do certame, a equipa Algarvia defrontou algumas das melhores equipas europeias da modalidade, incluindo os atuais campeões Europeus, os Guayota, de Tenerife.

Este torneio, enquadrado na preparação para o Mundial de Clubes de Ultimate de Praia, que irá ter lugar em outubro próximo precisamente na cidade de Portimão, de onde UFA é originária, revelou um nível altíssimo e deixou muito bons indicadores relativamente ao estado atual da turma Portimonense.

A equipa algarvia, atual campeã nacional de Ultimate de Praia nas divisões, masculina, feminina e mista e Vice-Campeões Europeus na divisão mista, terminarm o torneio com um saldo de 8 vitórias e uma derrota, tendo a derrota surgido na fase apuramento dos finalistas, em ponto Universal (morte-súbita) contra o conjunto tenerifenho de Guayota.

Na final, UFA defrontou os Murcielagos de Valência, um dos mais fortes conjuntos da vizinha Espanha, num jogo altamente disputado, com uma grande superioridade dos ataques de ambas equipas. Neste particular o único break surgiu no último ponto do encontro, com o que parecia uma vitória cantada da turma Valenciana a ser salva in-extremis já dentro da área defensiva portuguesa, seguindo-se um ataque rápido e efetivo dos algarvios para encerrar o encontro com um resultado de 11-10.

De notar também o excelente espírito e fair-play demonstrado pelos atuais Vice-Campeões Europeus, que ganharam também o prémio Spirit of the Game.

The Algarve team from Clube de Praticantes Ultimate Portimão, commonly known as UFA (Ultimate Frisbee Algarve), was crowned champion of the international Calafell Arena Beach Ultimate Tournament on September 15. The event took place near Barcelona and spanned three days, during which UFA faced some of Europe’s top teams, including the current European champions, Guayota, from Tenerife.

This tournament served as preparation for the upcoming World Beach Ultimate Club Championships, set to be held in October in Portimão, the home city of UFA. The high level of competition offered a strong indication of the Algarve team’s current form as they gear up for the global stage.

UFA, which holds national beach ultimate titles in the men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions and is also the European mixed division runner-up, finished the tournament with an impressive record of eight wins and one loss. Their only defeat came during the finalist qualification stage, in a sudden-death point against Tenerife’s Guayota.

In the final, UFA faced off against Murcielagos from Valencia, one of Spain’s strongest teams. The match was fiercely competitive, with both teams showing impressive offensive play. The game’s only break happened at the very last point, just as the Valencian team seemed poised for victory. UFA, however, made a dramatic defensive save within their own end zone, followed by a swift and effective counterattack, clinching the win with a 11-10 scoreline.

In addition to their tournament victory, UFA also earned the prestigious “Spirit of the Game” award, highlighting their exceptional sportsmanship and fair play, further solidifying their reputation as one of Europe’s top teams.

The Portuguese Ultimate and Disc Sports Association (APUDD) congratulated UFA on their outstanding performance and extended its best wishes to the Algarve team and all the other national teams preparing for the World Beach Ultimate Club Championships.
